Cambodia has taken a significant step toward formalizing its electric vehicle ecosystem. In early 2026, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced that all electric vehicles in the country — including electric tricycles, electric motorcycles, and electric cars — will now be required to display special green license plates featuring a green 'EV' identifier.
These distinctive plates will apply to both standard license plates and special plates across the capital and all provinces. The green 'EV' identifier serves multiple purposes: it helps law enforcement quickly identify environmentally friendly vehicles, supports the implementation of EV-related policies, and raises public awareness about electric mobility. According to the ministry spokesperson, the uniform identification symbol reflects the environmental attributes of electric vehicles and facilitates policy enforcement and management.
The green plate mandate is part of the broader National Electric Vehicle Development Policy 2024–2030, which the Cambodian government has formally adopted to accelerate EV adoption nationwide. The policy sets ambitious targets: 30,000 electric cars, 720,000 electric two-wheelers, and 20,000 electric tricycles on Cambodian roads by 2030.
Official data shows accelerating market growth. In 2024, Cambodia registered 3,508 electric vehicles, including 1,161 electric tricycles. By September 2025, the number had surged to 10,568 registered EVs, with electric two-wheelers growing from 94 to 2,710 units during that period.More recent figures indicate continued acceleration. As of March 2026, total EV registrations reached 16,210 units, including 722 electric tricycles.Month-to-month registration figures show rapid growth: 488 units in January 2026, rising to 1,078 units in February 2026 — reflecting increasing market acceptance.
For electric tricycle manufacturers and suppliers targeting Cambodia, these policy signals are unmistakable. Cambodia's commitment to green mobility — reinforced by tariff reductions on EV components that took effect in April 2026 — creates one of Southeast Asia's most favorable market entry environments for electric cargo trikes. The green plate system also simplifies vehicle identification and registration, reducing bureaucratic barriers for importers and fleet operators.
Guangxi Dachuan Vehicle Co., Ltd. is well-positioned to meet Cambodia's growing demand for electric tricycles. The company's stainless steel electric cargo trikes are engineered specifically for coastal and humid climates, making them an ideal choice for Cambodia's tropical environment and Mekong Delta conditions where rust and corrosion are persistent challenges for conventional vehicles.
With 1.5m and 1.6m cargo bed configurations available in a premium silver finish, Guangxi Dachuan's e-trikes deliver durable, low-maintenance performance for diverse applications — from agricultural transport to last-mile delivery. The company also offers OEM/ODM customization, enabling Cambodian distributors, logistics companies, and government agencies to tailor battery capacity, cargo accessories, and branding to local market needs.
As Cambodia continues to build its EV ecosystem with supportive policies, clear regulations, and ambitious targets, Guangxi Dachuan invites partners to explore opportunities in this fast-growing market.
